This week I’ve been thinking about the opportunity we have as a church to gather for prayer on Sunday. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6 that the Christian life is not a casual stroll but rather a battle. And one of the greatest weapons God has given us is prayer. Without it, we’re like a soldier fully armed but cut off from the Commander. Prayer is how we stand firm and how we stay connected to the One who fights for us.
That’s why I’m especially looking forward to our quarterly prayer gathering this Sunday. Wally will be opening God’s Word and teaching us about prayer, and then the Wolfes will share during a Q&A about how God has used prayer to grow and shape their family spiritually. I think you’ll be encouraged as you hear how prayer has sustained them in real and practical ways. And then, together, we’ll take time to do the very thing Scripture calls us to; pray in the Spirit, with perseverance and intercession for one another.
As a church plant, we believe prayer is not just a box to check or a calendar item to fill. Prayer is the work. Before fruit, before growth, before salvations; there is prayer. Oswald Chambers put it this way: “Prayer does not equip us for greater works—prayer is the greater work.” That’s the kind of culture we want here at Grace: built on the Word, dependent on prayer.
So let me encourage you to come ready this Sunday. Come ready to pray for your church family, for the needs of those around you, and for God to be glorified through us. Prayer isn’t about performative; it’s about dependence. It’s how we stand together in the strength of Christ.
For the Church,
